Senaite is a complex oxide of lead, manganese, iron and titanium. It shares the same the general formula, ABM18O38, with other members of the crichtonite group (Wülser et al., 2004). Hussak & Prior (1898) named the mineral after Joachim Candido de Costa Sena (1852-1919), professor of mineralogy, School of Mines, Ouro Preto, Brazil.
Senaite forms loose crystals found in diamond bearing sands. This is a rather large albeit crude crystal. 12 mm in greatest dimension.
