Alterite is a newly discovered mineral species, code named IMA2018-070, discovered by and named after Arizona mineral collector Malcolm Alter. The official announcement of its discovery appears in IMA newsletter 15 (Hålenius et al., 2018). Alterite is a double salt, containing both oxalate and sulfate anions.
Alterite here forms microscopic yellow-green needles on a friable matrix. The coverage area is approximately 15 by 7 mm. In association are minor white alunogen and brown humboldtine.
