Home > Skorpion, Broken Hill, Salmo – July 24 > MS1388 Pyromorphite

Pyromorphite is a lead phosphate mineral, often found in zinc-lead deposits. Curiously much pyromorphite has a green color, but this color is not the only color for the species. If pure, the compound would be white. This is an unusual orange pyromorphite from Broken Hill. Pyromorphite here forms a spray of stubby hexagonal crystals to 1.2 cm long and 1.0 cm across on a gossan matrix. Unfortunately one of the pyromophhite crystal is incomplete, see photos. This specimen could be displayed to minimize the apperance fo the broken crystal.
