Quartz after Baryte - Sold

Baryte is a common mineral in ore deposits, constituting a significant portion of the gangue mineralization. Sometimes later quartz encrusts the earlier form baryte, forming overgrowths. More rarely the baryte slowly dissolves away and the crystals are infilled with quartz, forming a pseudomorph. This is such an "infiltrated" specimen, with bladed replacement crystals to 2.8 by 2.2 cm. A fine coating of micro-crystalline pyromophite adds some sparkle to the piece. Nice pseudomorph!
