Tarbuttite on Hemimorphite

Tarbuttite is a zinc phosphate named in honor of Percy C. Tarbutt (?-1943), who provided material for characterization (Spencer, 1908). Generally zinc phosphates are much rarer and less widespread than their zinc arsenate counterparts. Tarbuttite has triclinic symmetry and the same crystal structure as paradamite (Finney, 1966).

Tarbuttite here forms a two convoluted aggregates, rosettes, one 1.3 cm and the other 1.8 cm on matrix. The matrix consists of botryoidal white hemimorphite with a bit of attached gossan. High quality for the locality. Accompained by a label dating the specimen to 1929.
