Brucite - Sold

Brucite is magnesium hydroxide. The mineral name honors Archibald Bruce (1777-1818), who founded of the American Mineralogical Journal, in which he first described this mineral species. Silliman (1818) renamed the species after Archibald Bruce, after his untimely death.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill's collection card and label ship with the specimen. Previously in the Professor Schneider collection (University of Berlin), acquired 1956.
