Thorite - Sold

Thorite is a thorium silicate, with the same crystal structure as zircon. The mineral has tetragonal symmetry. Berzelius (1829) named the mineral after its thorium content, which in turn was named after the Scandinavian god Thor.

This specimen is a simple tetragonal prism with a pyramidal termination. Quite rounded, perhaps having spent a million or more years in alluvium. Nice example.
