Magnesite is a magnesium carbonate. The mineral appears much like calcite, and is a member of the calcite group. Brogniart (1807) proposed the name magnesite for this species.
In the metamorphic rocks of the Brumado region, metasomatism has deposited the some of the largest and finest magnesite crystals (Bodenlos, 1954). This is a single crystal, somewhat etched, of colorless magnesite. It consists of a shallow rhombohedron modified by pinacoidal faces. Complete.
