Junitoite - Sold

Junitoite is a calcium zinc silicate. Williams (1976) named the mineral after Jun Ito (1926-1978), chemist at Harvard who had previously synthesized the compound. Students at the University of Arizona recently refined the crystal structure of junitoite (Yang et al. 2012).

Junitoite here forms scattered white pearly plates to 5 mm across on a druse of hydroxyapophylite-(K). The junitoite crystals are quite large for the species; minor blue kinoite also present.
