Hemimorphite is a hydrated zinc silicate mineral, known formerly as calamine. Kenngott (1853) introduced the name hemimorphite for this mineral species to distinguish it from smithsonite.
This is a specimen of hemimorphite sprays covering a breccia fragment. Miners at Sterling Hill called this material "maggot ore" which does reflect the brilliance and curved shapes present. While covered on two sides by crystals, only one surface shows undamaged crystals. A mineral classic.
