Greenockite - Sold

Greenockite is simple cadmium sulfide (Connell, 1840). The mineral name honors Lord Greenock, whose given name is Charles Murray Cathcart (1783-1859), discoverer of the mineral (Thompson, 1840). Greenockite here forms a red-brown granular lining in a cavity in sulfide ore. While not especially attractive, this is a rich greenockite sample. This material contains considerable zinc, residing near the compositional boundary with wurtzite.
