Keyite is a copper cadmium arsenate named after mineral dealer Charles Key (1935- ). The original description appeared in the famous Tsumeb! issue of the Mineralogical Record. The mineral has an intense blue color, despite its minute crystal size. Keyite occurs on fracture surfaces in massive here associated with emerald green zincolivenite.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. There is a label from A.L. McGuinness. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
