Zincgartrellite is a lead zinc iron arsenate mineral named for its relationship with gartrellite (Effenberger et al. 2000). The name gartrellite, in turn, honor its discoverer, Australian mineral collector Blair J. Gartrell (1950-1994).
This specimen consists of crystalline deep green olivenite with a botryoidal coating of olive green zincgartrellite. In cavities in this specimen, zincgartrellite crystallizes on its globular surfaces, causing a satin like luster in places. Rare. Formerly in the collection of I.J. Immelman.
