Shortite is a sodium calcium carbonate, named after Maxwell N. Short (1889-1952), former professor of mineralogy at the University of Arizona (Tucson) (Fahey, 1939). Shortite characteristically forms peculiar triangular crystals. This item consists of three loose crystals, one with with a bit of attached oil shale. They range in size from 12 by 5 by 2 mm to 7 by 3 by 2 mm. This is a rather large crystal for the locality. Good transparency. From the collection of Robert Chambers of Tucson, Arizona.
