Pirssonite is a hydrated sodium calcium carbonate mineral. The mineral name honors professor Louis V. Pirsson (1860-1919), petrologist and mineralogist at Yale University (Pratt, 1896). Pirssonite here forms a single crystal, with some included greenish gray mud. The crystal development is quite skeletal, likely a consequence of rapid crystallization in lake brines.
