Shortite is a sodium calcium carbonate, named after Maxwell N. Short (1889-1952), former professor of mineralogy at the University of Arizona (Tucson) (Fahey, 1939). Shortite characteristically forms peculiar triangular crystals, in this example 12 by 4 mm, in oil shale matrix. This is a rather large crystal for the locality. And this example has good transparency. From the collection of Robert Chambers of Tucson, Arizona.
