Stibnite in Quartz

Stibnite and quartz are minerals known since ancient times. The name stibnite is derived from early Greek and then Latin words for the mineral. Quartz derives its name from the old Saxon word Querklufterz, the cross vein ore material.

Stibnite here forms a phantom of needles in a colorless quartz crystal. This is a rare inclusion in quartz, certainly best developed in these crystals from Nevada. This is a particularly fine crystal, with a dense mass of stibnite, and also especially transparent for this locality.
