Scorodite is a hydrous iron arsenate, named after Greek word for garlic, which odor it gives upon heating (Breithaupt, 1818). Scorodite has orthorhomic symmetry, and one typical form for the species is eight-sided pseudo-octahedral crystals.
This is a tight cluster of pseudo-octahedral scorodite crystals to 1 cm on edge. These scorodite crystals heavily impregnated with fine-grained pyrite, which renders them opaque and leads to a rough surface texture. A well-crystallized thumbnail.
