Mottramite - Sold

Mottramite is a copper lead vanadate mineral. Early in the twentieth century, the species was confused with the related mineral descloizite, and sometimes called cuprodescloizite. Roscoe (1876) named this mineral after Mottram St. Andrew, Cheshire, England.

This is a cute stalactitic mottramite specimen. The mottramite is brownish-green, indicating the surface layers are closer to descloizite in composition. The luster is a bit dull, but the form is excellent. Brought out of Mexico in 2016.
