Merelaniite - Sold

Merelaniite is a newly described mineral named after the Mererani Hills. While these hills appear spelled Merelani in gemological literature, locals primarilly use the spelling Mererani. The mineral is an exotic molybdenum lead vanadium antimony sulfide, related to cylindrite (Jaszczak et al. 2016). Merelaniite received species approval in 2016, and appeared listed as IMA 2016-042 in IMA Newsletter 33. Merelaniite occurred on a limited umber of alabandite specimens recovered 2011-2013.

Merelaniite is a very rare mineral, of unique chemistry, and this example is likely the only sample available online. The specimen is mounted in a colorless 1" compression-fit micromount box.
