Home > Type Localities III – March 1 > MS1175 Jonesite

Pabst and Wise (1977) named jonesite in honor of Francis T. Jones, who discovered the mineral while processing specimens from benitoite mining activities. Jonesite is a complex potassium barium titanium silicate mineral. Jonesite here forms a spray of crystals, 2.5 mm across. This is a large spray for the species, and certainly eye visible on contrasting matrix. Associated with jonesite are neptunite and minor undissolved natrolite on a characteristic matrix of blue fibrous crossite.
