Lawsonbauerite is a rare manganese zinc carbonate mineral, first found at Sterling Hill. Dunn et al. (1979) named the mineral in honor of Lawson H. Bauer (1889-1954), chemist at the New Jersey Zinc Company, operator of the Franklin mine. The mineral forms a white bladed aggregates on a fracture surface with minor white fibrous sussexite. The bulk of the matrix appears to be pyrochroite. This is a rich example from a find on the 900' level at Sterling Hill. Some of the lawsonbauerite has a black alteration coating.
