Plumbogummite after Pyromorphite

Plumbogummite is a hydrated lead aluminum phosphate, while pyromphite is a lead phosphate chloride. Meteoric water carrying aluminum causes the chemical replacement of pyromorphite with plumbogummite. While plumbogummite was recognized from this mining region in the mid 2000's, these remarkable pseudomorphs starting coming to market in 2012-2013. At the 2015 Denver Show, several dealers offered these specimens which were quickly purchased by collectors. This example shows a rich robin's egg blue color to the plumbogummite. The prismatic pyromorphite replacements reach 1.5 cm long and 0.5 cm across. Some of the crystals show yellow-green relict pyromorphite. This example has the best color, and quite good crystal form. Many of the better color specimens actually have a rougher form. Choice!
