Dolerophanite

Dolerophanite is a copper sulfate mineral. Unlike most other copper oxide minerals, this specie has an uncharacteristic brown color, causing Scacchi (1873) to the name the mineral after Greek for false appearance. This is a sealed glass tube, 5 cm long, enclosing numerous loose brown crystals. The quality of the photography suffered due to the glass tube, which has also rounded the crystals after decades of storage in drawers.

This item was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
