Gatehouseite is a hydrous manganese phosphate isostructural with arsenoclasite. Pring & Birch (1993) named the mineral in honor of Dr. Bryan Michael Kenneth Cummings Gate- house (1932- ) a crystal chemist of Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. On this specimen, gatehouse forms subparallel groupings of yellow-brown prismatic microcrystals. Associated minerals are Mn and Fe rich calcite and hematite. This is a very rare mineral.
