Home > Type Localities I – June 9 > MS1081 Pirssonite

Pirssonite is a hydrated sodium calcium carbonate mineral. The mineral name honors Professor Louis V. Pirsson (1860-1919), petrographer and mineralogist at Yale University (Pratt, 1896). Pirssonite here forms a single crystal, with some included greenish gray mud. The crystal development is quite skeletal, and may relate to rapid crystallization in lake brines.
