Andradite after Phlogopite - Sold

High temperature metasomatism in the Franklin ore body transformed micas into garnets. This is an unusual pseudomorph, which the locales have dubbed "caswellite". The name honors John Henry Caswell (1846-1909) mineralogist and petrologist at Columbia University. This is a mass of platy garnet with a pale pink color.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
