Mooreite is a magnesium manganese zinc sulfate originally found at Sterling Hill. Bauer & Berman (1929) named the mineral in honor of Gideon P. Moore (1842-1895), chemist at the New Jersey Zinc Company. This is a choice example, with a freestanding 5 mm crystal. This specimen is a mounted micromount
This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. The original label states the locality as Franklin, but the mineral is known only from Sterling Hill. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
