Leucophoenicite - Sold

Leucophoenicite is a manganese silicate of the humite group. The mineral name means "pale purplish red" in ancient Greek (Penfield & Warren, 1899). Moore (1970) solved the crystal structure, finding monoclinic symmetry. Here leucophoenicite forms pink masses in calcite. Good example.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill obtained this specimen from Cliff Frondel, and there is also a Harvard Museum label present. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
