Andorite - Sold

Andorite is a silver lead antimony sulfide. The mineral name honors science patron Andor von Semsey (1833-1923), a wealthy Hungarian who spent his inherited fortune to advance science (Krenner, 1892). Donnay & Donnay (1954) noted that different andorite samples showed different unit cell dimensions, which they named andorite IV and andorite VI. This material, which came out in 2005-2006, represents a world class find of the mineral. Flattened crystals such as this example are dominated by the andorite VI component, as demonstrated by RRUFF sample R060673 from the same find. This single crystal is approximately 65% complete, showing deep striations and minor attached zinkenite needles. A choice example, although perhaps too large for a thumbnail box. Excellent condition.
