Friedelite is a layer silicate mineral containing manganese, originally found in the Pyrénées. Bertrand (1876) named the mineral after French mineralogist Charles Friedel (1822-1899). Dunn (1995) describes friedelite from Franklin and Sterling Hill. In this example a flattened vug hosts crystals under 1 mm in size. The color of this friedelite, a pale pumpkin orange, represents an unusual color for the locality. Nice piece!
