Molybdophyllite - Sold

Molybdophyllite is a rare lead silicate mineral appearing very much like common mica. Flink (1901) named the mineral after the Greek molybdos "lead" and phyllos "leaf". The mineral forms pearly plates to 3 mm embedded in calcite with scattered crude crystals of hausmannite to 6 mm. The mineral mostly covers a 2 by 2 cm triangular area on this specimen.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
