Serpierite - Sold

Serpierite is a hydrated sulfate of copper and zinc. Bertrand (1881) mineral named the mineral in honor of Giovanni Serpieri (1832-1897), an Italian engineer who helped re-open the ancient mines of Laurium. This is a rich specimen with radiating sprays to 4 mm across scattered over a tough smithsonite matrix. Very attractive under the microscope. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited, obtained in 1954 from Krantz. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
