Uranophane is a hydrated uranium silicate mineral. This specimen features a radiating aggregate, 1.4 cm across, of needles nestled in a depression in limestone matrix. This is classic material from the post-WWII uranium mining boom in the southwestern United States. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited.
