Lorandite - Sold

Lorandite is a thallium arsenic sulfide, named in honor of For Eötvös Lorand (1848-1919), physicist of Budapest, Hungary (Krenner, 1897). The mineral forms deep red crystals, here to 4 mm in a cavity with oranger (but still red) realgar crystals. This is the type locality. Due to the abundance of thallium in the Allchar deposit, scientists used the deposit to estimate the cosmic neutrino flux (Anicin et al. 2011). This specimen is from the Joseph Urban collection, and ships with his label.
