Uranium Minerals I – August 27

This update features various uranium minerals. When uranium precipitates from hydrothermal fluids, it typically forms uraninite. The uraninite forms with uranium in the 4+ valence state, but surface waters readily oxidize the uranium atoms to 6+. In this geochemical process, some of the uranium goes into solution, combines with other elements and water, and forms a diverse array of colorful uranium bearing minerals. This is the first of two planned galleries of uranium minerals.

This gallery contains 20 specimens.
